The date for Frank's death is not really accurate. He did have something of a drink problem and had actually failed to return home after going to a pub a fortnight earlier. His body was found in the canal and had probably been there some days.
On his death, his widow, Agnes, continued to run the coal business but this gradually declined. The main problem being that the business had big contracts to supply the mills with coal for their engines. As the mill owners modernised the demand for coal fell and the business had to rely on domestic trade. Eventually the business was sold to a long standing employee, A Hardaker, who continued with horse and cart till just before WW2.
